    Q&A

    • What hair colour suits me?
Avoid anything more than two shades darker or lighter than your current colour. If your hair is already coloured, we recommend you only go darker as it's difficult to lighten coloured hair. If your skin's warm or olive in tone, try a warmer hair colour. Cool and rose complexions work well with cooler shades.
    • How often can you dye your hair / how often should you dye your hair?
We recommend that you can reapply the colour every 4-6 weeks.
    • How long does it take to colour hair?
The development time for Nutrisse Ultra Color is 25 minutes. If your hair is more resistant to taking colour, allow to leave for 35 minutes.
    • How to colour black hair brown?
Choosing the right shade for you is key to achieving a radiant, rich brown. Nutrisse Ultra Color is developed to achieve ultra vibrant colour even for dark bases. Simply select one of our Ultra Color brown that are within two levels of your natural black hair. If you want a much lighter brown, you must first use a bleach to lighten your hair to your desired level and then select a brown from the same level to colour. Pick from one of our five Ultra Color browns to achieve the colour you have always wanted.
    • How to colour black hair violet?
Nutrisse Ultra Color is developed to achieve ultra vibrant colour even for dark bases. To achieve a violet, simply select one of our Ultra Color reds violets that are within two levels of your natural black hair. If you want a much lighter violet, you must first use a bleach to lighten your hair to your desired level and then select a violet from the same level to colour.
    • How to colour your dark hair blonde?
Nutrisse Ultra Color is developed to achieve ultra vibrant colour even for dark bases. To go from a dark base to blonde, simply select one of our Ultra Color bleaches or Ultra Lighteners to achieve the colour you have always wanted.
    • How to colour your hair purple/violet?
Choosing the right violet for you is key to achieving a bold, vibrant violet. Pick from one of our three Ultra Color violets that is within two levels of your natural colour to achieve the violet you have always wanted to your hair. If you have already coloured hair, choose a violet that is darker to achieve a deep, vibrant violet.
    • How to avoid colour fading?

Always choose a great product, and give your hair constant, loving care. Also, remember not to shampoo your hair for a good 48 hours after colouring; the longer you leave it, the more the colour will latch on to your hair. When you do eventually shampoo it, opt for a product for coloured treated hair that will be gentle on your newly-coloured hair and help lock in the colour. Most important of all: conditioning. Get yourself a really good conditioner tailored for coloured hair and also start using masks at least once a week.

    • How to highlight and colour hair at the same time?
The key to mastering this technique is all in sectioning and separating the hair you would like to colour and the ones you would like to lighten for highlgihts. First chose the base colour that you would like to colour your hair from our range of Ultra Color permanent shades and colour the sections that you would like to be the base. Then select one of our Ultra Color High Lift products for the highlgihts and apply to the remaining sections.
    • How to dip dye / tie dye hair?
Nutrisse Ultra Color High Lift collection are the perfect products to achieve tie dye, highlights, low lights and any other lightening effect you would like to achieve. Follow our How To Tie Dye video for a step by step guide.
    • How to care for freshly coloured hair?
Whether you’ve gone for a drastic or subtle change, always choose the right shampoo and conditioner. Choose a gentle shampoo that is designed for coloured hair, which will help retain your colour. Find the best shampoo for you that will boost your hair colour. Condition well: add a deep conditioning treatment to your hair routine at least once a week. Dampen your hair with warm water, apply the conditioner and leave it in for half an hour. Once thoroughly rinsed, you should see the difference in softness and shine immediately. Re-colour often, but not too often: You should re-colour your hair once a month.
    • How do I avoid stains around my hairline?
Try applying moisturiser to your skin before applying the colour, then use warm water and cotton wool to wipe away any excess.
    • Should I use shampoo to rinse out the colourant?
No, when you rinse the hair, the colourant will act as a shampoo. For best results, use the conditioner after rinsing, and then again when the water runs clear.
    • Does leaving haircolour longer than indicated time mean a more intense colour?
No, leaving the colour longer on your hair will not have any additional effect. Please follow the development time as indicated on the instruction leaflet for best results.
    • What is the difference between temporary and permanent haircolour?
Temporary colour is perfect for a subtle change to your natural hair colour or to add a layer of tone – a red tone on brown hair. However, because it doesn’t contain peroxide, temporary haircolour can only darken hair. You can wash out temporary colour over a period of around 12 shampoos. Permanent colour provides a longer-lasting option for your haircolour. Unlike temporary colour, permanent colour cannot be washed out. It has to grow out. If you want a more drastic change of colour for your hair, permanent is the best option. With a permanent colour, you can easily lighten your hair from light brown to blonde.
