Not the color advertised
Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews until after I bought this. I decided to give it a try anyway. I can live with the results, hence two stars, but this is not what I wanted at all. It is way more orange than I'd like as I don't look good in orange! Buyer beware! As for Garnier, fix this stupid color already or change your box! The color inside is not what is advertised! I am attaching pictures, but the camera doesn't really show what it really looks like. The first picture in the hair is at about 15 minutes. The rest are after.
No, I do not recommend this product.

It was a hit n miss but not bad!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Personally, I think this was a very easy to use product to help with covering gray hair! It wasn't messy or over powering chemical smells at all. It does suggest to brush it some once it's dried, to give it more of a natural feel. The Garnier Hair Color Express Retouch comes in this capsule looking thing that you shake, then open up and there's a sponge looking end with the touch up color on it to dab on your hairs or lightly apply to the roots. It covered a lot of my gray hairs, but there were some it wouldn't cover up. It felt like I had used a little too much hairspray in that section, so I brushed it some to feel more natural. I do think it's a good product for in between dye jobs. It's the same concept as a person using concealer to cover up blemishes or other imperfections on your face. I liked it very much, just wish it wouldn't colored more of the gray. I'm going to keep practicing and see if with practice it will be perfect!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Not the same at all they need to fix this formula
3 years ago
Like other have said I have been using this color for years and it’s always been a beautiful soft black color. The last time I bought a box I thought I must have bought an old batch or something but it did turn my hair a green color. Bought another one and same thing happened except this time ir didn’t even cover my greys it just tinted them green! They clearly haven’t listened to any of their recent reviews regarding this color so I will be switching brands which is unfortunate because like I’ve said I’ve been a loyal customer for years. I don’t want to take the chance that another color will not be what it’s supposed to be.

Actual Dark Brown Chocolate Color (Not Black)
I used to use the ultra light ash blonde color (high lift) on my natural level six hair to get an (almost) white blonde color. I have also bleached my hair, so I knew I had to go in stages to reach a nice dark brown. Before using the Dark Brown 40, I had previously filled my hair twice. First, to a level 7 to put back in the gold and red, and then to a level six, to move towards brown. I waited two weeks after those two colorings before using this product, hoping I would get a rich brown, unfading, non-reddish color. I'm thrilled that this did the trick! It was never black (not even right after washing) and didn't turn out red or fade to red. I did the color three weeks ago and the only fading has really been that somewhat harsh tone you get after coloring with a dark color that went away after two washings. The blonde is NOT peaking through at ALL.
The reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is because It lifted my roots. My roots are a natural level 6, so there is no need to lift them out, which means the developer is probably pretty high. It worked awesome on my hair with all the blonde underneath to create the desired looks, but I noticed my virgin roots didn't deposit as dark as the rest of my hair. Luckily, no one else will notice because it's so subtle and didn't diminish the overall result.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Lifts dark regrowth better than expected
Before Hair: Natural medium-dark brown with medium-to-light-blonde highlights (full head of foils). Dramatic contrast between regrowth and highlighted hair.
Predicament: Regular salon visits are getting expensive. Not happy with the patchiness the foils have created. When I tie my hair up (which I do often), there are a lot of dark areas. Torn between dying it all back to my natural color or trying to uplift the roots myself. The Latter seemed way to risky as I am completely inexperienced with bleaching my own hair.
Process: I decided to try the 70-dark-natural-blonde-almond-crème. Looking at the “Is this shade right for you” on the side of the box, my hair is probably slightly darker than the medium brown shown. I followed the root touch up option, but after rinsing off the color (but before using the conditioner provided), I used some purple shampoo on the roots because I noticed they looked a bit orangey after the 30 mins). I left the purple shampoo on the roots for about 5 minutes and then washed it into the rest of my hair for about another two minutes.
Result: Wow! The roots lifted really well (no orange) and the blend into the lighter blond length is way more even than the foil route. No more patchiness. I am still blonde (definitely lighter than Drew’s shade), but it’s toned down and looks a lot more natural and healthier.
I hope this helps anyone in the same predicament as me. I am so glad I didn’t try the whole “add red back first to avoid your hair going green and then chose a brown shade lighter than you want” route again, as this has never worked for me and has left me miserably washing my hair with decalcifying shampoo for weeks to try and lighten the brown, only to have copper tones showing through which later turn a pinky shade.
Yes, I recommend this product.

My go-to shade of red!
I love how good Garnier smells, and how soft my hair feels afterwards. I switched to Garnier during my first pregnancy because it's more natural (though doctors now say hair dye does not cause any issues on babies!) I love this color and always get compliments on it. I usually use this color but during the winter I go for the darker burgundy (almost purple shades). It's a beautiful bright red, and it fades to a nice copper shade as well. My hair is naturally dirty blonde, now with gray, and I've never had any issues using this shade to cover. If your hair is shoulder length or longer, or thick, you will likely need two boxes.
