I wish I read the reviews first BEFORE I went and brought this color hair dye. If I could give zero stars, I would cause what was advertised on the box for Dark to Darkest Brown Hair is false. I followed all the instructions and hair dyeing rules to end up with Black Hair and NOT Blue. I don't recommend this hair color for those who have Dark to Darkest Brown Hair Color and you want to dye your hair a shade of Blue, don't use this color shade cause it would be a waste of time and money. I included screenshots of what my hair looks like before I colored it, the color it's supposed to be, after I colored it, and the difference.

I started using this January of 2017 and I hope you never get rid of it! It is the only hair color I have used in 40 years that I actually got compliments on! My hair is better after coloring than before. My hair is gray and fine/curly--so the Q&As do not really cover my situation, but it is fragile and I have used your Light Cool Demin 6 times so far this year and I still have no damage. I promised myself when I was a youngg girl that when I got to be an old lady I would have blue hair because my grandma and her sisters used blue rinses in the 60's...so here I am! And it looks fantastic!

I purchased the B2R Dark intense burgundy hair color yesterday for the simple fact that I wanted a change. My natural hair color is medium to dark brown. This color says it is specifically for darker hair... I followed all directions as written in the box, washed the color off after 25 minutes and my hair is NOT "intense auburn" by ANY means... My hair is now BLACK! The only thing it turned even a hint of red it my scalp! I did not want my hair to be black. If I wanted black hair I would have bought black hair color! Plain and simple, I'm highly upset and now that my hair is black, there is nothing I can do without paying a professional to strip all color out of my hair. which I do not have the money to do... …This color is a “bold, ultra” coppery red/orange. I’ve ONLY used Garnier NUTRISSE hair color for almost 20 years, now, and the colors I’ve selected in the past have NEVER been this far off the mark. Luckily, although I DID want to try violet, I don’t mind the red, because I’ve gone red before. But, your company REALLY needs to start listening to these criticisms and adjust the color formula.

I bought this color a day before my high school graduation and I have naturally dark black hair and I've always had blonde highlights. I colored my hair the medium intense auburn and I fell in love with the color but there were patches of my hair that were slightly lighter than others and The color kept running every time I washed my hair. within a week of having dyed my hair, the beautiful reddish-auburn color that I fell in love with faded and now it's a horrid, slightly dull, brownish-orange color... I'm slightly disappointed

I love the color purple and have never had issues with box dye before. This is beyond a manufacturing issue, this product needs to be pulled from shelves for falsely misleading information because the color is nowhere near Violet. My hair is now ruined and I can't dye my hair again right away because it will damage it more. And when I am able to dye it, I can only go really dark or black to fix all the coloring issues. I am actively involved in my children's school and I work, this is beyond on inconvenience but more so emotionally damaging to have to walk around with this color until it's safe for my hair to re dye it again.

Really Interesting Color Spectrum

I was bored one day and decided to dye my hair for the first time. I have dark thick black hair so I wasn't looking for a huge change in color. I'm very happy with the unique result of my experiment but it was definitely unexpected. I attached a bunch of pictures because I really appreciated others doing so to kind of get a feel for what I was getting myself into. Firstly, with just inside light, my hair looks pretty much unchanged. Second pic is normal sunlight and you can see the color tint appear. More sunlight increases the amount of red visible. The last picture was taken when the sun was shining directly through a window creating a bright red. My entire hair is one color so that contrast is only due to the sunlight exposure.
Overall I'm very pleased with the result. It's quite different from what I expected but I'm happy with it.

I am so upset with my new hair color, I wont leave the house. I did everything right. Step by step, use 2 packages, left on for 30 min, rinsed, conditioned and now it's freaking yellow/orange. I did this Saturday night and it's now Monday. Ive used the conditioner 3 times for 10 min and no change.
How do I fix this mess?

Hi there. We know how disappointing it can be to look forward to a new application of color only to find that your results are not what you expected. There are many reasons why haircolor results can come out so different. The Nutrisse Ultra Color PL1, “Lightest Platinum” is a lightening kit and actively lightens hair for up to 60 minutes. Natural hair lightens faster than previously dyed hair so the natural hair will take less time to reach the pale blonde stage vs. the previously dyed hair. Removing the lightening mixture too soon will result in hair that has not reached the pale blonde stage. I'd like to start with I bleached and dyed my hair blonde a week before using this product. The product was easy to use and didn't smell to bad and the conditioner included is really nice. I left the dye on for 40 min and my hair came out rather dark in most areas and a regular blue in the areas I had highlights I was satisfied with it considering my goal was blue hair

I bought this because I was looking for a change. I really loved the new denim trend, but I had realistic expectations of what to expect from boxed color. Despite many poor reviews online, I decided to go with IN1 dark intense indigo. I couldn't be happier with the results. It is a beautiful, rich deep midnight blue. It is definitely not only black, it is a gorgeous multidimensional navy color. I will definitely be using this again. My only complaint is that my hair is not as soft as I'd like, but perhaps I didn't leave the conditioner in long enough. The pictures really don't do it justice.

I read reviews on this product and think it got a bad rap. First of all, if you have a strong hair color, it may overwhelm this, so please bleach if you have dark hair. I bleached (picture 1), then used this dye. It started out dark (picture 2), but after 3 weeks it has lightened up to look like the box (picture 3). I have been very happy with this dye and would recommend it, just realize that it won't look exactly like the picture on the box immediately. I thought it was very gentle on my hair, and a lot of hot girls have walked up to me and wanted to touch it. It I had known they would do that, I would have started dyeing my hair at twelve!

Just bleached my hair and the color I used failed, but I finally got it back to a lightness that I could keep working with it till I got my real back. I rocked it for a little while, and my hair faded to a version of this color. So I figured, it’ll turn out either like the bright blue pictured as a result on pre lightened hair.
Dye in. Dye out.
Get out of the shower. And it’s black. Blow dry it. It’s NAVY BLUE. How?? How is it darker than when your pictured brunettes’ results?
This is really devastating to be perfectly honest, the teal is my personality. And now I’m a darker different shade of blue. So... thanks for the heads up. Maybe include a “Warning: Lighter shades are not recommended, they will turn DARK blue.”

This shade was never tested on bleached hair, only natural hair. Bleached hair is porous hair, that will always respond differently to color. Over time as you shampoo the color will wash out. Bleached hair will never hold this kind of color for very long. Thank you again, for sharing your experience!

I got this in attempt to try to (all over) tone my hair. I couldn't make it to Sally's for toner over the past three weeks I've wanted to go.. it just ended up being more convent for me to find something at walmart. I was sick of my brassy (according to the side the box "dark blonde") ombre, and wanted to get the brass out, but still beable to keep the two tones..
SO..ASSUMING it would lighten after a few washes, and be not brassy blonde after. "On a whim" I leap for two boxes. I thought- "if it doesn't wash out, its not that bad a color it might look cool."
I started with the underneath and work my way up to the top. By the time I emptied the second bottle, to my dismay, the hair where I started.. was navy blue.
Now I find myself at the point where if it doesn't lighten up..I will be super super unhappy and have wasted my money and it will cost some more to fix it. I'm a stay at home mom just tryin to treat myself to some very much needed me time stuff, and I ended up with this. Not at all what I was going for. (see photos).
I am giving it a 3 because it could go either way at this point.I wouldn't recommend this dye to anyone unless they ask how it got this way.. and want it in their hair.

Im only 15 and my mom was superrrrr nervous putting in this color. We were both afraid of how it would turn out. but IT LOOKS AMAZING :) The only thing i would change is that the color bleeds... a whole lot. i wear a white school uniform. horrible mistake. its been alomost 3 weeks and the water in my color still doesnt run clear. im also too afraid to go swimming. other than that i get SO many compliments on it. Im dying it again soon :) it also fades too fast for my taste.

so my hair was already and ashy silver blue, but my dark blonde roots were starting to show and the color was turning kind of green. I wasn't super pleased with the other light blue box dye I'd tried so i grabbed this one.
i started with just my roots since they needed the touched most. by the time I do is head th the light blue color had DRASTICALLY darkened to a vibrant mid night blue.
i couldn't walk around with crazy dark roots and light hair so I bit the bullet and covered the rest of my hair.
luckily I'm pretty chill about my hair and the color is super pretty, so I'll roll with it. two stars for that I guess.
my biggest issue is that my roots, which held the dye the longest, didn't take super well--they're greenish? since they were the color the dye was made for i'm pretty perplexed by this.

I have used Garnier for the last 2 years, this brand never disappoints! This red came out a lot bolder than I expected and did leave a few brownish red streaks, still very much worth it. *WARNING* Don’t expect for all of it to wash out after dyeing, water was a pinkish/light red when I finished so i’m expecting it to bleed out the next few times it gets wet.

Went into this excited and ended up regretting it. I was in love with the color on the model, and trusted this to work because it clearly says "visible on dark hair" and it's not. My hair remains exactly the same, but with a red scalp, from the dye not a reaction. Because i have so much hair I bought 2 boxes. I wish I could get a refund.

Turned my hair color into "firetruck engine red"

My favorite color is purple, I love having my hair purple, but I couldn't find the right shade until I can across Garnier Intense Violet. I was so excited that I bought it, brought it home and dyed my natural hair, exactly how is says to do it on the box....now I look like I have a tomato on my head. My hair is BRIGHT red, I don't know if maybe something got accidentally switched at the factory, but now I'm going to have to come up with the money to get my hair striped professionally after just growing it back out healthy from having all the products cut off. I'm so mad it's not even funny. I was so excited about this dye and it let me down.

This is, by far, THE best box color I’ve ever used! About 5 years I’ve been using this, and the results on my dark brown hair are better than the salon could ever do. No, seriously. The color lasts for a good 10-12 weeks with very little fading. I have been stopped many times by strangers who wanted to compliment my color. I also have baby-fine hair. This keeps my hair feeling fresh and soft and healthy! For those who had problems, you need to know this is a henna based color, so you need to be careful about what you’re putting it on. My ONLY complaint is that it takes 2-3 washes to get out all of the dye. Garnier, PLEASE don’t ever discontinue!!

Ok, due to all the scary reviews, I was very nervous diving headlong into this. I did purchase because ultimately I didn’t mind too much if all I got was black hair? I last colored my hair in March of 2020 before the craziness. It’s now Halloween and I’m not loving the red tones that came from my last chocolate coloring from another brand. I had five inches or more of new growth and the rest had a red tone from the previous box dye I did in March. The reviews all told horror stories, but I’m glad I tried it anyways. My natural hair is I guess a dark blonde or light brunette? I had three or four day old hair, and I’m oily and fine, make sure your hair is always unwashed and free of products before coloring. I followed the directions in box and was careful with my surroundings as not to stain my bathroom, as I’ve done before with dark dyes. My hair is a beautiful shade of dark blue, it’s no longer red toned! There is a blackness to it, but I see the blue wonderfully. Hoping I can keep it this color. I’m going to continue to use this shade as long as possible. If you have naturally brown hair, like me, I don’t see why this won’t work for you, plus I had my hair previously colored as it says not to, but it worked perfectly with my hair anyways. I did make sure to rinse my hair very well afterwards, then used the mask included. Afterward I used a leave in conditioner just to be safe and to protect the color even more!!

Best gray cover ever! Warning: This "denim" dye will not give you the color on the box. Nothing close, in fact. But despite the warnings not to use it on gray hair, do it! I am mostly white in front but have mostly solid brown in back. On me, this dye starts out midnight blue. The base color seems to be black, because as the dye fades over several months, it approaches gray, not white. The fun thing is that it fades at the same rate that my hair grows, so the root growth never shows much. It looks kind of natural throughout the course of the color.

I bought this thinking it would also turn my head slightly purple and the box results according to my hair tone was saying it should have. Boy was I wrong! My hair is slightly fushia and copper red mixed together. My hair was natural for about 6 mpnths to a year so nothing should have affected my results. I am very disgusted. I was trying to surprise my husband with a shade I had when we first met but that Garnier had discontinued. This new box was the closest to what my hair looked like back then. My husband said it looked like i had dipped my hair in a bowl of grape juice. No grape juice color this time; more like cranberry juice!

I've been letting my hair grow for several months, as I've begun using a extremely high quality haircare line in August and really wanted to see if it was all it claimed ... my roots were about 6 to 7 inches, so I'll say yes ... that being said I decided I didn't want to be a blonde any longer, but the nice soft lighter brown I was when younger. WISH I'D READ THE REVIEWS ... I've never had issues with blonde Nutrisse colors for dark hair ... but OMG ... bright red roots, and the rest is a dull blonde that is awful ... I'm debating doing the HL3 again, or just going back to the blonde, as this is the worst experience I've ever had with Garnier Hair Color which I've been using for about 6 years. Obviously from my pics my haircare is working, as it's only been 3 weeks since we did my color.

I have used this product 2 different times, once when my hair was red, which resulted in a dark blue mostly noticeable in the sunlight and the once when my hair had been blonde, which resulted in a beautiful blue. Both times it didn't look like the box and both times I was disappointed that it washed out so quickly. This is suppose to be a permanent hair dye, what a joke. I washed my hair every other day and used shampoo & conditioner for dyed hair.
I would have given this 1 star, but I really liked the shade of blue it gave me the second time I did it. Is there anyway you can rework this product so it actually stays in your hair, so it's permanent like the box says?

I just bought this color today. I have color treated hair with Garnier Darkest Brown. I had to pre-lighten my hair two shades lighter to achieve this color result. The warnings on the box are true.
I will post photos. I love Garnier hair products for achieving the reddest of red hair colors. Keep in mind not all colors work for everybody. Please Acknowledge if you are not experienced in lightening hair DON'T DO IT! Seek a

Didn't Color my Hair

I dyed my hair today with this product, B4 that I purchased in May 2025. I noticed it became very thick in the bottle after mixing it. I had to shake it several times to get it to come out. Maybe that was my warning that something was wrong. I put it on my hair and left it on 30 minutes. After rinsing it out, I noticed it barely colored my hair, and the gray was still showing. Kind of a dull color on my hair. I looked for an expiration date, but I didn't see one, only 70Z100.

I hadn't dyed my hair in 6+ years, and decided it was time for a change. Always dreamed of having red hair, but never could get dye to stay - my hair's nearly black naturally. I thought I'd give Nutrisse Ultra R2 a try, because really, the worst it could do was not work, right?
Well, as it turns out this product is a miracle. Seriously, I've never been this happy with my hair before. Even when red dye DID tinge my hair before, it always faded so fast it was basically gone before it was even time to do a root touch up. With the R2, it's stuck around at almost the exact same intensity level for a month so far.

I have hair that has a lot of grey and silver, plus had been bleached once upon a time. The color I got was not what was on the box, but I was delighted with the result. I have very intense blue hair and have gotten many many compliments. The blue shade changes depending on the lighting. Anyway, I knew from the instructions that I wouldn't get the same results as that on the box and yes - I will absolutely use this shade again! I hope it maintains well!

Let me preface by saying I have natural dark brunette hair (around a level 2). I wanted a change after having virgin hair for so long. I was excited. Until this color started developing. There is absolutely ZERO violet in this color. I applied the product and left it in as instructed (25mins) and my roots are BRIGHT RED. The rest of my hair is a tint of red. No purple whatsoever. The attached photos include with the dye in, then with it washed and wet. I'm writing this as my hair is air drying, terrified of how much worse (and redder) it will look when it's dry, in natural sunlight. Never purchasing again.

Works - it's a decent 30 vol bleach

A few things to get out of the way: mix it in a bowl! The developer alone (30 vol) is sooo thick I don't see how you could possibly shake and mix thoroughly. Also, I have 1 inch all over pixie hair and 1 kit was just enough to saturate the hair. Finally, the toning conditioner isn't strong enough. It's extremely pale purple. All that aside, it did a great job of lifting my light brown hair (which was previously lightened from medium/dark brown). It went yellow as anyone knows is what happens when you bleach hair - toning it gets platinum. A star removed for implying that the enclosed conditioner could tone enough. Also, my hair would've gotten to a paler yellow if it hadn't started burning at 30 min but that was my bad for putting it on hair that wasn't too dirty. Pix attached of before, during, and after. Will tone properly when my scalp has calmed down.

From natural virgin dark hair to strawberry blonde

Not what I expected AT ALL mind you,however, I was going from super dark almost black hair which is my natural color so my expectations were low. Instead I got the happiest accident! Beautiful strawberry blonde, not brassy or unnatural looking at all. I already had extremely red undertones in my natural hair color ( heavily Irish roots) but DARK so I knew this might happen. However I found myself in this happy accident. Lifted my hair A LOT for a beautiful summer color. Couldn't be happier. Highly recommend for natural virgin dark hair and possibly apply toner if you want the red tones out over time.

Product isn’t overbearing with a decent smell. No burning or itching while it is processing I applied no heat and went from a dark brown to platinum within 30 minutes. This comes from someone who dyes their hair from black to blonde every other month. I will never use any other product because this one delivers and gives me exactly what I need so I can keep my hair from Falling out and dye my hair crazy colors.

Okay, I had died my hair black a couple months before I had used this color. I saw it in the store one day and was like, "Oh m gosh, I want this." So I bought it. I was afraid that it wouldn't work because it said ' best used for virgin hair' basically, but I gave it a chance. Now my results weren't completely spot on with the box, but I still loved it. The red went great with my skin tone. I still had that hint of brown in my hair( the black had faded to a dark brown) but the red was definitely overpowering it. When I ran track, people would yell out "FIRE" and things like that. So by commentary, I definitely knew it was red. I love this color so so much. and I would recommend this product 100%. It does work on dyed hair, though it may not be as "vibrant" as you are wishing, it still very much does your hair justice(: GOOD LUCK.
oh-- and the price was amazing for what I got.
