7 tips to become a sun screen pro!

Interested in ensuring you’re applying sunscreen like the pros? Find below a few handy tricks!

Find out what your skin type is

First things first: know your skin. Work out your skin type and buy sun protection products designed especially for you; those with oily skin should stay away from ultra-thick formulas, while those with sensitive skin should choose a product formulated for their skin. And don’t be afraid to mix and match if you need to, since your skin type may vary across the body.

Go activity-specific

If you’re planning on swimming or doing water sports, make sure you protect your skin with water-resistant sun protection. If you’re playing sports, be sure to use sport sunscreen, such as our water and sweat resistant Sport Endurance SPF 50+, which offers a high protection, even on wet skin! This way, the activity you’re doing won’t get in the way of your skin protection.

Don’t forget the face!

Not only will your face see more sun than the rest of you, but it is also made of particularly sensitive skin. To avoid sunburn, it deserves a little extra attention. A dedicated facial sunscreen does the trick; when in doubt, simply choose a sun protection with a SPF of 50 or 60 for maximal protection. We recommend our Ultra Light Advanced SPF 60 50 mL, or our new Ultra Light Advanced SPF 60 50 mL Tinted lotion!

Get under the edges

Applying sunscreen under your clothes is the only way to be sure of getting protection right to the edge. You don’t want to end up with a stripe of sunburn outlining your bikini, t-shirt, or sandals!

Apply in advance

Always apply your sunscreen at least 15 minutes before going out under the sun. This allows enough time for the sunscreen to be properly absorbed by the time you hit the beach.

Reapply often

When it comes to sunscreen, reapplication is key. Reapplication is recommended at least every 2 hours, and use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. For water resistant sunscreen reapply after 40 or 80 minutes if swimming or sweating and immediately after towel drying.. Set an alarm, or team up with your partner or friend to remind you.

Spending some time in the sun is relaxing and energizing, but you should do it the right way. Follow these 7 tips to avoid sun damage, and get ready to enjoy the sun!
