Sun Protection is Child's Play!

Sun Protection is Child's Play!

Learn more about the damages caused by the sun, and find out how to protect your little ones, so they can play safely, all year long.

A leading name in sun care since 1935, Ombrelle never stops innovating. The star products in their children’s line now benefit from the Kids Ultra Gentle Spray formulation charter. Learn more about damages caused by the sun, and find out how to protect your little ones, so they can play safely, all year long.

The Effects of the Sun on the Skin

Although exposition to the sun can have many benefits, like vitamin D intake and a moral boost, it can also have many damaging effects. The cause? UV rays, which can be divided in two groups.

Approximately 95% of UV rays that reach the earth’s surface are UVA rays. They can penetrate clouds and glass, as well as the dermis, which is the deeper layer of skin that protects against external aggressions and maintains your skin’s integrity. Exposition to UVA rays can lead to the production of free radicals, as well as collagen degradation.

UVB rays can damage the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin that is responsible for your skin tone and waterproof protection. Even though they don’t penetrate as deep as UVA, too much exposure to UVB rays can cause visible changes like sunburns, and can attack your skin’s DNA, which may lead to skin cancer.

Protecting Your Kids

Everyone needs sun protection and kids need it even more. Children under the age of 6 have thinner skin with less pigmentation. The lipid film, which acts as a protective barrier, is also more fragile. Protecting your kids from sun damage today helps contribute to keeping their skin healthy throughout their lives: that’s sun resistance. The skin “records” the harmful effects of solar rays: we receive 60% to 80% of all the sunlight we receive before the age of 18, and many studies show that using a proper sunscreen in childhood significantly reduces the risk of skin cancer in adults.

Applying sunscreen is the best way to protect your kids from the sun’s harmful rays. To protect completely the body of your child, we recommend using 2 tablespoons of sunscreen (approximately the size of a golf ball), and reapply as often as possible; this is important especially if you are at the beach or by the pool, since the sun can penetrate water up to 30 metres. Your little ones should also take breaks in the shadow from time to time, and wear clothes and a hat when they are playing outside.

The Kids Ultra Gentle Spray Line

Your kids deserve a sun protection designed especially for them. That’s why Garnier Ombrelle created formulas that will make sure your little ones can play safely in the sun.

The Kids Ultra Gentle Spray is the first sand-resistant SPF 50 spray that protects against all invisible rays, even infrared, and ensures optimal tolerance for your children’s sensitive skin. The formula offers an 80-minute water resistance and an easy 360-degree application.

The Importance of Natural Ingredients

Most sunscreens contain harsh chemicals that can damage your children’s fragile skin. Because we know you want the best for them, we made sure that the Garnier Ombrelle line is as soft as possible for them. Indeed, the formula is hypoallergenic, paraben-free, colourant-free and fragrance-free*, and has a SPF of 50+. It is also photostable and offers a wide range of protection against UVA, UVB, long UVA and infrared.

*excluding the Wet Skin formula: SPF 50 + contains a fragrance
